Group project
An application allowing users to get the local weather forecast news delivered directly to your phone or tablet. Based on the weather mood, a music playlist or movies is recommended.
Gathering requirements, UI design, testing, Heuristics evaluation.
February 2019 to March 2019
Visual paradigm, Figma.
For the data gathering, we used questionnaires as a method of data gathering. The advantages of questionnaires include but are not limited to set up efficiency, and access to a large sample population. The questionnaires were initially created and composed on Google docs as it allows simultaneous workflow amongst our team members.
Based on 100 responses received, 86% of the recipients are between the age of 18-25, with less than 15% accounting for under 18s and above 25s added together. This would mean that the weather app should be designed in the way to appeal to young people as they are our major stakeholders.
This graph shows how likely music or movies can affect users mood based on a rating scale of 1 to 5. Most users chose option “3“. However, if we further analyse the data from the graph, more people chose rating 4 or 5 which supporting even more the potential of incorporating a music recommendation function into the weather app.
The weather mood application will give you basic information such as current temperature and subsequent (6) days of weather forecasting. Detailed data such as wind speed, humidity, atmospheric pressure, UV light, sunset and sunrise time will also be included. The software will display the temperature in Celsius with a short description of today’s weather condition, for example, sunny, windy, rainy, cloudy, …
With the daily recommendation, the app should gather data from music and movies libraries. Then, users can share music or movies recommended by the software to friends through various social applications so that the social character of the software is collaborative.
Add and keep track of more than one weather location then tap on the plus sign (+) on the top menu to select other the city/ country.
We focus on providing our primary users (young people between 18 and 25) new ways of checking the weather on mobile phones, with particular features, the flat and simple UI design, music recommendations, and time-lapse background.
The music recommendation is generated to the user on a daily basis based on how the current weather condition is, such as there would be a list of comfortable and quiet music on a rainy day so as to bring a cosy atmosphere.
A storyboard about how to get music and movie recommendations
The top displays daily weather information, below shows temperature and weather conditions for the next six days. The timeline shows the temperature for each hour of the day. This provides the common user need from a weather checking.
The background changes according to the city selected and shows the city landscape and the weather animation to enhance interactive experience.
Recommendations changes accordingly based on the current weather condition, time, and location. Our primary users can now save time from searching for new movies and songs. This helps them know their music preferences even better. The interaction is simple, swiping up in the area below to get a selection of songs and movies.
